|
The history of the French bulldog is interesting as the breed originally came from England and was known as the English bulldog. However, when workers were driven to France during the Industrial Revolution, they took their bulldogs with them. Here lies the origin of the Frenchie as the dogs became popular in the country of France. Unique little animals, the French bulldog consists of a tight-framed body and can live from 10-12 years of age.
The average height is about 12 inches tall and weighs about 19-28 pounds. These dogs are great for any family, as they are known for their comical attitudes. Any owner would be thrilled to have this breed as an addition to the family as their lively spirit is known to make people happy.
Along with their lively spirits, this particular breed is very alert, affectionate and enthusiastic. Because the French bulldog doesn’t yap or bark loudly, they would be well suited for apartment life. However, they do need your guidance because, they can become very stubborn and ill mannered at times. Just as with most breeds, the owner must be firm and dedicated to establishing authority. They also must be able to interact and communicate with their dog(s). Besides a little drool the French bulldog is a very meticulous breed that prefers to be clean. They require minimal grooming, as they tend to shed very little.
A helpful tip to keep in mind is to always take precautions with the breed in hot weather. French Bulldogs love to run around and play for hours, but they can overheat themselves quickly. The hot weather can also cause the dog to have respiratory issues. They will wheeze and snore when they have problems breathing. Their tiny bodies can also be a factor as well. Joint diseases, spinal disorders and heart defects are just a few of the predominant health problems with the breed.
Other than a few health issues, the French bulldog is a great pet. Full of life and energy, these balls of joy can give you the time of your life. Ask Martha Stewart, who owns two French Bulldogs named Francesca and Sharkey. These two lucky dogs have their own blog site. Other celebrities that have a Frenchies are actors Ashley Olsen, Christina Ricci, Reese Witherspoon and Leonaro Di Caprio.
